Enter how many questions you got wrong on an NBME or UWSA practice form and this NBME score calculator converts it to a predicted score, your chance of passing and your percentile, shown on a chart. Add several forms to see one combined prediction and your trend.
How the conversion works
Each practice form has its own conversion, because forms differ in difficulty: on most forms one extra wrong answer costs about 1.0 to 1.15 points. NBME publishes no official conversion, so every calculator, including this one, uses formulas fitted from students’ reported scores. We show which forms have good data and which do not, and we never guess a form we have no data for.
| Exam | Form (questions) | Points per wrong answer | Data |
|---|---|---|---|
| Step 1 | NBME 25 to 30 (200) | 1.05 to 1.15 | Community formulas |
| Step 1 | NBME 31 (200) | 1.08 | Limited data, shown as an estimate |
| Step 1 | NBME 32, 33 (200) | n/a | Not enough data yet |
| Step 2 CK | NBME 9 to 14 (200) | 0.84 to 1.12 | Community formulas |
| Step 2 CK | NBME 15 (200) | curved | Community formula, valid from 26 to 72 wrong |
| Step 2 CK | NBME 16 (200) | about 1.1 | Preliminary |
| Step 2 CK | UWSA 1, 2, 3 (160) | about 1.1 | Community formulas |
| Step 1, Step 2 CK | Free 120 (120) | n/a | Not converted: published formulas disagree by up to 25 points |
Prefer to enter a percentage? Switch to “% correct” and the calculator works out the wrong answers from the form’s question count.
When you add several forms, the newest counts most (weights 1, 2, 3 in time order), and the result shows each form on its own bar.
What the result shows
- Step 2 CK and Step 3: your predicted score with a likely range of plus or minus 8 points (7 for Step 3), USMLE’s standard error. The chart places you on the official distribution of first takers from the USMLE norm table updated 17 August 2026, with the pass mark of 218 (200 for Step 3).
- Step 1: Step 1 reports only pass or fail, so the headline is your chance of passing by percent correct, with your predicted 3-digit score against the pass line of 196 for reference. NBME’s own report shows its chance of passing for your form; where it differs, trust NBME.
The calculator runs in your browser: nothing you type is sent to us or stored.
Step 3
There is no public wrong-answer conversion for NBME’s Step 3 self-assessments (CCMSA), which use their own 10 to 800 scale. For Step 3 the calculator takes your UWSA 3-digit score instead and shows your percentile, range and margin over 200.
After your result
A result near the pass line is a reason to keep practising, not to panic. Our Step 1 recalls, Step 2 CK recalls and Step 3 recalls are updated every 15 days, and our lab values page has the full official table. What a real score means is on USMLE score percentiles.
Questions people ask
How accurate is it?
Converters that publish their accuracy report an average error of about 5 to 7 points on Step 2 CK forms with good data (step2predictor.com, checked October 2026). No calculator can be exact, and forms marked “estimate” or “preliminary” have less data behind them.
Why can I not choose NBME 32 or 33?
No conversion has been published for them yet. We add a form once there is data to support it.
Why is the Free 120 not converted?
The Free 120 has no official score, and the formulas shared online disagree by up to 25 points at the same percentage. The calculator shows how your percentage compares with USMLE’s statement that about 60% correct is typically needed to pass.
Is RecallsGuru part of NBME?
No. RecallsGuru is not affiliated with NBME or USMLE.
